How do I sign up?
Give us a call at 442-2780, email rokelley@arkansasusa.com, or come by our office, The NET Connection, Inc, 995 North Shiloh Drive, Fayetteville, AR. We will check your address to see if you are within our current area of coverage.
Can I purchase my own equipment and install it?
Yes. One of the reason we settle on Lucent Orinoco wireless is because it is brand named and widely available. You may order from CDW, Microwarehouse, PC Connection, and many others.
How is Wireless different from Cable and DSL?
First there are no wires tying your notebook or hand held device to a single location in a room. I created this page setting in my backyard garden in my favorite chair. The birds are singing and the air is fresh and if I need to move to my deck, I just close the lid on my notebook and carry it to my deck, open the lid and begin to work again with no break in my Internet connection.
Second is speed. Both Cable and DSL have fast download speeds but the upload speeds are far less than fast network speeds. Wireless is the same high speed both up and down, and true LAN speeds at 100 Mbps are possible. Try that with a cable or dsl connection. (Current Wireless speeds offered do not exceed 2 Mbps.)
Third, because Wireless is not limited by a physical connection to a cable or phone network, Wireless will cross boundaries bringing high speed Internet to areas that have no hope of obtaining cable or dsl Internet for years to come.
What will I need to connect to Wireless?
A wireless modem that can fit in your Notebook or desktop computer. If your desktop is wired to a LAN, you can use Windows 98 Internet Connection Sharing to provide your high speed Wireless Internet to your wired LAN. Depending on how far you are from a transmitter, you may need an external antenna to extend your range.
Okay, I already have a Cable or DSL connection but I would like to have Wireless to my notebook, can I do that?
Yes, we can extend your Cable or DSL Internet connection to hand held devices, notebooks, or desktops where wired networks are difficult, permitting you to have your own Wireless Internet using your Cable or DSL Internet connection. Because I can't yet obtain Cable, DSL, or Wireless in my area, I have a ISDN Internet connection coming into my home connected to my desktop and I use Wireless to extend this to my notebook which permits me to travel up to 800 feet around my home with no wires. The installation costs are about $600 and there are no additional monthly fees. Your neighbor can even use a Wireless connection back to your home network and you can share the cost of your Cable or DSL connection. You can become a mini ISP right in your own neighborhood. (Don't ask your cable or dsl provider about this, they will not like you sharing your connection, but unless your agreement limits you on how you can use your connection, you can do this.)
How soon will Wireless be widely available?
It is available now in some areas. We have quietly provided wireless Internet to some limited areas of Fayetteville since February 2000. We now have wireless available to the general public in a large area in Fayetteville. We are concentrating on areas where Cable and DSL are not available.
Fayetteville - We are accepting subscribers for the Farmington and West Fayetteville area along both sides of 16 Highway west of I540 and on the east side of I540 near Ramey Jr. High. Click here to see map of our Fayetteville Tower location. We have tested out to 8 miles from our Fayetteville Tower so if you can see that tower and you are within 8 miles you can obtain wireless. Here are just some of the locations where we are or can provide service:
North College - beginning at Township and College and going north to the and including the Northwest Arkansas Mall.
Millsap Road
Highway 112 (North Garland) starting North of Mt Comfort Road (Dean Street) out to Howard Nickel Road.
Colt Square
Whistle Stop Plaza
Bentonville - We will soon have wireless available within a 1 mile radius of our Bentonville Office.
Wireless Internet does not require a phone line or cable service. We install a Wireless Network Adapter in your computer or attached to your LAN and all traffic is sent and received using Wireless in encrypted mode.
